We stand in solidarity with the Black community and demand justice for Black victims of police brutality and an end to systemic racism in the United States that disproportionately targets members of the Black community. We urgently call on all members of the AAPI community to join us by listening, learning and taking action to dismantle institutional power structures that oppress Black communities. Recent events—including the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Nina Pop, and Breonna Taylor—have, yet again, put the fierce urgency of these issues in stark relief.
Our nation’s capital is home to an incredibly diverse community, including a broad diaspora of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. As a collective of volunteer-run and nonprofit organizations that help represent these diverse communities, we unequivocally stand in solidarity with the Black community and Black AAPI members of our own communities. We recognize that an unjust system must end—and the burden to end the long standing oppression of Black people living in America must be shared by everyone.
Each organization is committed to taking concrete measures in support of Black lives. We encourage everyone to visit each organizations' website to learn more about our respective actions and explore the NAACP's "We Are Done Dying" Campaign.
